The compacted base decides whether the surface stays flat. Ask every bidder what they put down and how deep.

Look for area, thickness, base preparation, removal and finish — not only one total at the bottom.

Concrete does not pour into rain or a hard freeze. Ask how the date moves and who makes that call.

Keep the final walk-through

Before you compare numbers
What decides a concrete price.
Concrete is priced by the square foot, but what decides whether it is still flat in ten years is underneath it, where nobody looks and nobody quotes.
- Area and thickness
- Square footage sets the floor. Four inches carries cars, and thicker is for what you park on it, not for reassurance.
- Base prep
- The compacted stone under the slab. It is the cheapest thing to skimp on and the only thing you cannot fix later — ask every bidder what they are putting down and how deep.
- Removal
- Whether there is old concrete to break out and haul. Demolition is priced apart from the pour.
- Access
- How close a truck can get. Every foot the concrete has to be barrowed is labor on a clock, because a load cannot wait.
- Finish
- Broom, stamped, exposed aggregate, colored. The finish is where two quotes on the same slab stop matching.
